Summer Animation Project #6: Warlord Walk

Here is a simple walk. Walks are pretty hard to do.... Definitely going to keep doing walks till I get it right. It was harder to do with this rig because I tried to make it look like he was stomping at every walk since he is a bigger character. He is probably walking a little bit too fast for his size though so I probably could've slowed him down a bit. His right arm constrain on the weapon is sort of weird because his hand slides in the animation. Oh well. Gonna go back to doing some tutorials. Gonna do this pulling test next. And I am enrolled in iAnimate Games workshops! Starting at the beginning of September and starting college again at the end of August.... My free time is going to disappear but that's okay :) VERY EXCITED

Summer Animation Project #5: Warlord Idle

Here's my first quick go at an idle animation. It's pretty tough getting the timing down, I am not used to looping things yet. Everything loops but I can't get the cloth to loop perfectly and I have no idea how to yet.  The cloth has so many controls to it and I don't know how to offset them all to make it look like its flowing. I should fix how that hood turns though so it doesn't go missing in part of the animation. Added a cute little hand grip animation too :) . I think I'll do a walk or run cycle next.  I havn't done a run cycle before and my first walk back in my intro class at CSUF was horrific (to my standards anyways)... We'll see what I can do but I'm leaning more towards doing run cycle.

I should work on an easier rig though, this warlord guy is pretty advanced.  Animating his beard and cloth is a bit hard haha. Just totally winging it.

Edit: Okay the run is kinda hard to get down. I'll just start with the walk first. Hahaha

Summer Animation Project #4: Heavy Push

Turned the light push that I did into a heavy push. Learned quite a bit from these tests and how weight works. Still got a lot more weight practices to do but I am gonna postpone those. I'm gonna work on some idle, walks, running, attack cycles for a bit now so I can have it in my progress demo reel. iAnimate Games is taking applications now and I want to at least have those cycles in my reel. Gotta work quick, I want to apply and secure my spot already.  I think I'll be using the warlord rig for the cycles... blah... I'm going to hate animating the cloth though.. OH WELL!

Summer Animation Project #3: Light Push

Finally finished this light push test from Digital-Tutors. This took me a while but I got it down. First time working with weight and making it believable which is going to be a big thing since I'm going into video game animation. Next up, changing this light push into a heavy push. I think I'll go back to these weight tests in the future with my own acting into it.

EDIT: Left leg pops when the character goes back to standing position. How did I miss this :( I fixed it, but not gonna reupload it just for that.

Summer Animation Project #2: Warlord Attack

Following a tutorial from 3D Motive. This was really hard since I'm still new and this had a lot of new things to work with. Played with FK/IK switching, cloth animations (which was a pain...), lots of poses. This took me a lot of time to complete because when I was splining it, I gave up because I ran into some problems. Picked it up this week and finally finished it.  I like the rig, I think I'll be using this one for other clips/practice as well. I want to change the weapon though, that'll be cool. But yeah, I'm really happy that I'm done with this one. I can finally move on to something new.

Now I'll be working on more stuff from Digital Tutors. Body mechanics such as pushing, pulling, lifting, climbing, and swinging. Then, I'll go into video game related cycles such as walking, idle, running, then more attacks. I'll be adding my own style and attitudes to those cycles.  After that I'll do some of my own scripted attacks and combos. Going to watch and study the new God of War trailers since I saw really awesome combat animations in that one.  The new Metal Gear Solid had some awesome sword animations too.  I can't wait to take a break from realism animation and go into more fantasy/heroic epic animations.

LOTS OF WORK TO DO, BUT I'M LOVING IT :) FUN FUN FUN

Summer Animation Project #1: Biker Attack Combo

I'll be doing a new video game animation clip every week for the rest of the summer so I can prepare for iAnimate's online animation workshops. At first, I will be following tutorials so I can get an idea of the workflow and what not. After that I'll be making up stuff myself and I cannot wait! I come up with the coolest things while showering.. hahaha. But anyways, here it is. I followed a tutorial from Digital-Tutors. And I looped the clip 3 times to help show it better.  I feel like there should be some anticipation on the first left hand punch, I don't know how to exactly move the animation forward to add something at the beginning just yet... haha

Warlord Hammer Guy

Started working on this awhile ago. Following a tutorial from 3D Motive. I got the keys and breakdowns and I'm working on the splining.  Took a break from this because I ran into some problems with it. I'll finish this up within the week hopefully!
